Building A Memory
written by Janice Bumbalough Marler
| |
As the summer rain pelts down
I take shelter under an old oak tree,
Breathing in the freshness of the fallen Spring rain,
I wade in the warmth of puddles left behind,
And I splash with childhood glee,
Stooping down, I pick up sand and watch it
Fall between my fingers onto the ground;
Shh, listen to the sound
Of my laughter as I play,
I'm building memories that will never fade away
When I lie down on my back
In the fresh cut grass,
I feel very small as I watch
Clouds pass overhead;
I paint pictures of the sky,
On canvasses in my mind,
With indigo and red;
Shh, listen to my laughter as I play I'm building memories that will never fade Away,
Today, as an adult, I don't often take the time to play,
but I have childhood memories
Stored, in a box, on a special shelf,
For special days,
And when I see the pelting rain, or orange and Indigo sky‚s I retrieve my box and
Become a child again.
Now I watch as my children wade in puddles left behind from the Summer rain.
Shh, listen to their laughter
As they play, they're building memories that will
Never fade away.
